Hydrogels can encapsulate live cells

The idea is to create a hydrogel out of cell-culture under mild conditions. This would result in the encapsulation of cells, which can later be used for studying properties as they would happen in different organs. This is referenced in [@foyt2018Exploiting Advanced Hydrogel Technologies to Address Key Challenges in Regenerative Medicine], a review paper, but not further citations are provided.

This is one way to Use of hydrogels for medicine, and somehow feels similar to the process of the EVQuant method. I wonder if Mimetas employs a similar principle in their organoplates.
